Jacqueline Fernandez hails from Manama in Bahrain. She grew up in an multiethnic family. Jacqueline Fernandez's mother Kim and father Elroy were both born in Malaysia. There are two brothers as well as an older sister. Her parents relocated to Bahrain during the 1980s because of the Lankan tensions and her birth and education were in Bahrain. In Australia she pursued a degree in Media and Communications at University of Sydney following her graduation from Bahrain. To enhance her passion for the world of languages, cultures and languages, she joined the Berlitz language schools in which she could study Spanish as well as improve French as well as Arabic. In addition, she was crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2006 for Miss Universe 2006 on March 6, 2006 and was a contestant at Miss Universe 2006. In 2006, she was awarded she won the Miss Sri Lanka title.
